Wild elephant falls into well in residential area in Thrissur, dies

THRISSUR: A wild elephant that had fallen into a well in residential area in Thrissur, has died. The elephant fell into the well of Kurikkassery Surendran, a resident of Anakuzhi near Puthur. The tusker died while trying to bring him out. The incident happened early Tuesday morning at one am.

The elephant fell into the well which had no walls. The inmates of the house woke up hearing a big sound. The elephant fell into a well which was too deep and too small in diameter. After being informed by the locals, the forest department officials reached the spot and started rescue operations. However, the small size of the well made the task difficult. Not getting the earthmoving machines on time was also a setback.

An attempt to make way using the JCB had also started. The elephant was alive till 7 am.
