pooram-

KOCHI: The High Court has requested an explanation from the government in response to a petition regarding police actions during Thrissur Pooram. The petition calls for action against Ankit Ashok, the city police commissioner. The hearing has been adjourned to May 22. According to the petitioner, police officers allegedly beat and obstructed believers during ritual ceremonies. There's a demand for a court inspection regarding these claims. Additionally, BJP leader B Gopalakrishnan has approached the High Court, demanding a judicial inquiry into the incidents on Pooram Day.

The amicus curiae submitted a report to the High Court stating that Devaswom officials did not cooperate with the inspection of the elephants brought to Thrissur Pooram. The report also notes that Rajesh, the secretary of Paramekkavu Devaswom, criticized the High Court. Amicus Curiae TC Suresh Menon, along with Adv K Santhosh Raja, conducted an inspection on April 18. The report further states that the doctor from the animal welfare department was absent. After forest department officials advised against continuing the inspection due to safety concerns, the elephants were not examined.
