IDUKKI: Former Devikulam MLA S Rajendran is again set to leave CPM as his discord with party local leadership remains unsolved. If the situation continues to worsen, Rajendran won’t have to think twice about joining BJP from CPM. In an interview allowed to a local channel, Rajendran opened up about leaving the party amidst the ensuing feud and critiqued the party’s current practice of purposefully hurting erstwhile leaders. Rajendran was not seen in the election campaign which he said was due to not receiving any invitation from party leadership.

It is just during the heat of the election campaign that news emerged about former MLA Rajendran tilting allegiance towards the BJP. Rajendran even visited BJP leader Prakash Keshav Javadekar in New Delhi and discussed the possible switch. However, CPM intervened and ameliorated Rajendran and even made him attend the party convention in Idukki. The leadership also assured Rajendran's presence in campaigning, but alas, the leader had other plans.

CPM, always vociferous about congress leaders joining BJP will have some work to do if Rajendran makes his way to BJP. CPM's strategy was to keep hold of Rajendran until the end of the elections; to not affect the party’s prospects. A once domineering presence in the high range who lost his sheen during the recent political rigmarole, CPM now considers Rajendran redundant and will care less if the leader opts for saffron.

It is known that S. Rajendran's move is to work with the Tamil Nadu unit of the BJP. Even the Kerala BJP leadership was unaware of the happenings which were taking place in the hilly terrain. Along with S. Rajendran, the BJP leadership also aims to bring more than 100 leaders of other parties to their camp. Apart from CPM and CPI leaders, some senior Congress and Kerala Congress leaders are reportedly included in the list. BJP is mostly targeting leaders who have been sidelined within their party and have tacitly expressed their resentment to the leadership.
