KOCHI: Crucial information has emerged in the case of the murder of a newborn baby in Kochi. The police have decided to file a case against the man who raped the 22-year-old mother and killed her newborn child. Legal advice was sought by the police in this regard.
In addition to the murder case, the police investigated how the unmarried woman became pregnant. The woman informed the police that she became pregnant by a dancer from Thrissur. She had connected with the young man on Instagram, where she posted reels. The young woman, who is also interested in dancing stated that he was a native of Thrissur and lived in Tripunithura. However, she told the police that there had been no contact with him for several months. The police seized the woman's phone and her statement will be recorded again after her health condition improves.
After the inquest, the baby's body was transferred to Kalamassery Medical College. If the alleged father is arrested, the baby's specimen will be collected for DNA testing. The young woman behaved as if she knew nothing about the crime. While other evidence was destroyed, bloodstains in the bathroom remained.
Initially, the girl and her parents denied any involvement in the incident to the police. However, during interrogation, the woman confessed to the crime and expressed willingness to cooperate with the investigation. The interrogation took place in the presence of Kochi City Police Commissioner S Shyam Sundar and the woman's parents.
The accused is a graduate with an M.Sc. degree, educated in Bengaluru. Cases have been filed by the Child Rights Commission and the Human Rights Commission, both of which have requested a report from the city police commissioner.
