KASARGOD: A grade sub inspector of Bedakam station, who attempted suicide by consuming rat poison the day after the Lok Sabha elections, has died. Vijayan (52) of Rajapuram Kolichal, died while undergoing treatment at Amrita Hospital in Kochi. Vijayan was shifted from the hospital in Mangalore to the hospital in Kochi two days ago.

He drank liquor laced with rat poison. Police had registered a case against the state secretary of the Youth Congress on the complaint that he insulted Bedadka grama panchayat president Dhanya from behind. The Congress alleged that he was pressured for immediate arrest. However, the police report said that there is no enough reason to arrest.

The police officials also said that Vijayan had no other problems to end his life. The CPM demanded arrest for insulting grama panchayat president and Congress staged protests to withdraw the fake case.

Meantime, Kasaragod UDF candidate Rajmohan Unnithan demanded that a murder case should be filed against Bedaduka panchayat president and CPM leaders. He also alleged that the CPM constantly put pressure on Vijayan to file a fake harassment complaint against the state secretary of the Youth Congress, who raised a strong protest when the CPM tried to attack the Chembakad UDF booth agent who had blocked the fake vote.
