Burglars attack youth, steal gold worth Rs 1.75 crore in Malappuram

MALAPPURAM: A complaint reached police on Sunday saying that a Maharashtra youth was attacked and his gold stolen from Tanur in Malappuram. According to the complaint, the assailants took away gold worth Rs 1.75 crore.

The gold was brought to Malappuram from a jewellery factory based in Kozhikode. The gold was meant to be distributed in bulk to jewellers in the district. The youth had two kilograms of gold and a gold bar weighing 43 grams.

While he was heading towards Kottakkal after distributing gold in Manjeri, a strange phone call reached the Maharashtrian. In the phone call, the group said they had started a jewellery shop in Tanur and wanted the youngster to visit them there. The youngster reached Ozhur after getting convinced but was forcefully dragged into a car where he was beaten while the gold was robbed.

The police have started an investigation into the incident. The preliminary conclusion tilts focus on a five-member gang strongly doubted to be behind the robbery. The investigation is being conducted under the leadership of DySP Tanur. The investigation is in progress while the CCTV footage has also been recovered.
