Three accused get severe imprisonment in Nadapuram sexual assault case

NADAPURAM: Three accused in the sexual assault case of a seventh standard girl were sentenced to severe imprisonment with heavy fines. The first accused is Anil (44), a native of Nedumparambu; the second accused is M. Das (44), a native of Ettumanoor, and the third accused is Changileri Vasantha (43), a native of Manarcad. Nadapuram Fast Track Special Court Judge M Suhaid pronounced the judgment.

Anil was sentenced to 40 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 60,000, Das was sentenced to six months of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5,000 and Vasantha was sentenced to 20 years and six months of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 35,000.

Anil, who used to stay with Das and Vasantha in a rented house in Parappupara, sexually molested the girl in several instances. Das and Vasantha were arrested for instigating the crime and concealing the details. It was only after the girl was taken to an orphanage that the horrific incident saw light.

Vasantha, the third accused, is currently in the Kannur Women's Jail after being sentenced to 75 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting the same child. Das was also sentenced to six months of rigorous imprisonment in the same case.
