Patient dies of fever in hospital; family protests with body alleging medical negligence

ALAPPUZHA: A high drama was witnessed outside Vandanam Medical College Hospital late last night after family members of a dead patient, accused the medical staff of negligence in treatment. The relatives alleged that Umaiba aged 70, who was undergoing treatment for fever, died following the negligence of the hospital. Umaiba, who was undergoing treatment for fever in the hospital later died of pneumonia.

Though she was taken to Kottayam Medical College, her life could not be saved. They later brought the body back to Vandanam Medical College hospital and protested in front of the casualty. They called off the strike after the hospital superintendent informed to examine and take action.

The locals and relatives protested for two hours. Umaiba's son told media that she died following the negligence of the hospital. Her relatives alleged that Umaiba was not given proper care in the hospital and was admitted to the general ward even though she was in a critical condition and also the doctors failed to attend her.

Umaiba came walking to the hospital 25 days ago suffering from fever. Her fever worsened after she was admitted in the ward. She developed brain infection. She was shifted to Kottayam Medical College on Tuesday and died yesterday. The hospital authorities of Kottayam Medical College informed that her death was due to pneumonia.
