THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a special drive conducted by the police, legal action, including arrest, was taken against 90 people involved in various crimes and 153 persons named accused in the warrant cases. 53 people were placed in preventive detention, while action was taken against 5 persons under the KAAPA Act.
Senior police officers assessed the situation in a meeting held in Thiruvananthapuram under the chairmanship of the state police chief regarding the special drive. State police chief Dr Sheikh Darvesh Saheb directed the Zonal IGs, Range DIGs and district police chiefs to take strong action against those who disturb the peaceful atmosphere.
Immediate legal action should be taken against violence against women and children. District police chiefs should give personal attention to cases taken up in connection with serious crimes and sensational cases. Review meetings should be held at regular intervals to arrest the accused in such cases.
Strong action will be taken against those selling and using drugs. The cyberspaces of those who engage in suspicious activities will be under police surveillance. The night patrolling system will be strengthened, the state police chief said. The operations of control room vehicles will be monitored. The district police chiefs should check whether immediate action is taken on the messages they receive.
