IDUKKI: Bypassing the ban on travel on Gap Road in Munnar, a school bus was driven there. Following this, the police stopped this bus carrying students and teachers and it had to take a longer route to Chinnakkanal via Kunchithanni.

The parents complained that the principal refused to allow the school a holiday despite a travel ban on the Gap road and adverse weather conditions.

However, the school authorities explained that it was a working day for school because the district administration did not declare a holiday and the bus driver did not follow the instructions to avoid the Gap Road route, adding that action will be taken against the driver.

There is heavy rain across Kerala prompting action from authorities. An orange alert has been announced in Idukki district today. Apart from Idukki, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad and Kasaragod are also on orange alert. A red alert has been declared in Wayanad and Kannur districts due to heavy rains. The flights supposed to land at Kannur airport was diverted to Kochi due to adverse weather. According to the IMD, rain is expected to continue in the coming days.
