KOZHIKODE: The Kozhikode District Sessions Court granted anticipatory bail to Usha, mother of Rahul P Gopal, accused in the Pantheerankavu domestic violence case, and his sister Karthika.

Usha and Karthika are the second and third accused in the domestic violence case. Usha and Karthika should cooperate with the interrogation. They should appear before the investigating officers before June 1. The court directed that the station should release them on bail if their arrests are recorded.

The counsel of the accused informed the court that they have nothing to hide and will fully cooperate with the interrogation. The accused also reiterated that the allegation of domestic violence is false. The court had recorded the woman's secret statement the other day.

Feroke assistant commissioner Saju K Abraham, head of the investigating team had earlier issued a notice asking Usha and Karthika to appear for the interrogation. Usha had informed the police that she could not attend citing health issues. She had also sought treatment at Kozhikode Medical College. Meanwhile, she approached the court for anticipatory bail.

Rahul and the woman from Kochi got married on May 5 in Guruvayur. Rahul brutally beat her on May 11. He beat her with the mobile charger and then entangled it around her neck. The woman had alleged that she was forced to drink alcohol in the presence of Usha. Rahul himself took the injured woman to the hospital.

When the woman’s relatives came to attend the reception arranged by Rahul, they saw injuries all over her body. When they enquired about it, she said about the torture she suffered. They later lodged a complaint with the police.

The police took a favourable stand towards Rahul in the beginning. However, the cop who helped Rahul to flee, was suspended from service later. Th women’s commission also intervened in the matter.

Blood stains were found in Rahul’s car in an examination conducted by the forensic. He has gone abroad. His bank account was also frozen earlier.
Rahul was at home when the Pantheerankavu police registered a domestic violence case against him. He fled when realised that a murder attempt case would be registered against him.
