NEW DELHI: Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that the BJP will win the most seats in the East and South Indian states in the Lok Sabha elections. Amit Shah made the predictions ahead of the last phase of Lok Sabha elections on Saturday. He said this during an interview given to NDTV.
When asked about his hopes in Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, Amit Shah said that the party has high hopes in all these states.
"We will maintain a good lead in Bengal. We might win 24 to 30 seats out of the total 42 Lok Sabha seats in the state. In Odisha, our target is to win 17 out of 21 seats. In Telangana, the NDA will win 10 out of 17 seats. We will win a large percentage of seats in Andhra Pradesh as well," Shah said.
The BJP, which is already a dominant force in the north and western regions of the country, is now attempting to expand its presence in the eastern and southern states that are ruled by opposition parties. States such as Odisha and Andhra Pradesh are also voting in the Assembly elections alongside the general election.
"I am sure that the BJP will emerge as the biggest party in the eastern region comprising Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar and Odisha.
We will win as the single largest party in the five South Indian states namely Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Tamil Nadu," Amit Shah said.
