25 marriages across the country, police traps fraudster before 26th marriage with a new strategy

MUMBAI: Firoz Ilyas Shaikh (48), a fraudster, was arrested for marrying 25 women. He was arrested from Kalyan, Mumbai following a complaint lodged by a woman of Nallasopara who was a victim of fraud. The woman filed a complaint against Feroz with the police for extorting 7.5 lakh rupees on the pretext of buying a car and a laptop.

A detailed investigation revealed that 25 young women were victims of Feroz's fraud. The accused was caught by the police by creating a fake social media profile in the name of a young woman. He preys on divorcees and widows found on matrimonial sites. After marriage, he absconds with the women's jewellery, money, mobile phone, ATM card etc.

Feroz married four women from Pune. Cases have now been registered against him from places including Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Thane, Arnala and Nallasopara. Nallasopara police also recovered Aadhaar, ATM cards, seven mobile phones, chequebooks, jewellery etc. of some of the defrauded women from Feroz.
