Seven struck by lightning on Kozhikode beach, one in serious condition

KOZHIKODE: Seven people suffered injuries after struck by lightning. The incident happened at Kozhikode South beath. The condition of one of them is stated to be serious. Those struck by lightning were fishermen. They were struck by lightning when they were engaged in mooring the boat and other work related to fishing.

The accident happened Thursday afternoon at 1 pm. Local residents Ashraf, Anil, Sharif, Manaf, Zubair, Saleem and Abdul Latheef were struck by the lightning. They were immediately admitted to the beach hospital. The critically injured has been admitted to the intensive care unit. Though there were not much rains in Kozhikode today, there was strong lightning in many places in the afternoon.

Security guard dies after struck by lightning in Kollam
Thulaseedharan Pillai (65) of Mannadi in Adoor, a security guard at a cashew factory in Kollam Kizhakkekallada Onambalam, died of lightning. The incident happened when Pillai came out from Onambalam St Mary’s Cashew Factory to have tea. He was struck by strong lightning. Another female employee of the factory too was struck by lightning. Prasanna Kumar (54) of Muttam sustained injuries. She has been admitted at the taluk hospital in Kundara. There was thunder and lightning in the whole district. There was heavy waterlogging in many places.
