THRISSUR: Rain is continuing unabated in northern parts of Kerala while the downpour is massively wreaking havoc in Thrissur. As per reports, rain continued nonstop for almost two hours in the district on Saturday morning. Two deaths were also reported in the district due to lightning.
Ganeshan (50), a native of Kurumal is the deceased. He was resting inside his house on Saturday morning when lightning struck him down to death. In another case, Nimisha (42), the wife of Sudhir from Kothakulam West near Vazhoor temple died similarly.
The accident occurred during a strong thunderstorm this morning. Nimisha was using the restroom outside the house when the lightning struck her. The roof of the toilet was broken while the bulb and electric wires are burnt.

Landslides and waterlogging are being reported from various parts of Thrissur district. A landslide hit the railway track between Thrissur Ollur and Puthukkad. The incident happened at 10:30 this morning. Just after Eravakkad gate, the landslide fell on the track before Ollur station. The Tirunelveli - Palakkad Palaruvi Express, Ernakulam - Bengaluru Intercity, Thiruvananthapuram - Kozhikode Janasatabdhi Express, Thiruvananthapuram - Shornur Venad Express were stopped at Pudukkad station following the obstruction. Train services were restored at 10.45 am.
Waterlogging was also reported in Aswini Hospital in Thrissur which took a toll on the patients. There was waterlogging in Thrissur Sakthan Road, Irinjalakuda, Puthamkulam Junction and Kunnamkulam. Shankaraiah Road, Mundupalam and Swaraj Round.
A red alert has been issued in Thrissur due to the possibility of heavy rainfall. Apart from Thrissur, Malappuram and Kozhikode districts have also been alerted today.
