THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: All the ministers of the first Pinarayi government who contested the Lok Sabha elections tasted defeat when the results were announced. KK Shailaja in Vadakara, VS Sunilkumar in Thrissur, C Ravindranath in Chalakudy and Dr TM Thomas Isaac in Pathanamthitta contested for the Lok Sabha and lost.

In this, KK Shailaja suffered a heavy defeat in Vadakara. She lost to Congress candidate Shafi Parambil by more than 1 lakh votes. In Thrissur, VS Sunilkumar lost by more than 74,000 votes in a strong three-cornered contest.

While former Education Minister C Rabindranath lost to Benny Behanan in Chalakudy, Thomas Isaac also tasted defeat in Pathanamthitta. Isaac lost to sitting MP Anto Antony.

Meanwhile, Devaswom minister K Radhakrishnan in the second Pinarayi government won Alathur. This is the only seat CPM won from Kerala. Only one of the three sitting MLAs who contested the Lok Sabha elections won.
With the victory of K Radhakrishnan and Shafi Parambil, by-elections in Chelakkara and Palakkad constituencies in the assembly are confirmed. Rahul Gandhi, who won from Wayanad and Raebareli, is likely to resign as Wayanad MP. If that is the case, by-elections will also be held in Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency.
