CPM to convene five-day leadership meet to examine miserable defeat in polls

cpm

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CPM has called a five-day leadership meeting to examine the severe setback faced in the Lok Sabha elections. A preliminary evaluation of the election results will be held in the secretariat meeting on Friday. The state secretariat will meet on June 16 and 17 and the state committee meeting on June 18, 19 and 20.

With Minister K Radhakrishnan entering the Lok Sabha after winning from Alathur, the CPM is also considering cabinet reorganization talks. The rule is that the member of the legislature must resign within 14 days of the notification of his election as MP. This matter will be discussed in the next day's secretariat meeting. The party is also thinking of convening the assembly session on June 10.

The big rift in the backward and Muslim vote banks which paved the way for the second Pinarayi government in the 2021 assembly elections, is the major reason for the heavy setback. The LDF won in only one seat. Complaints were raised that backward and scheduled communities were severely neglected during the three-year administration.

Anti-government sentiment has been created by youths anger over widespread backdoor and contractual appointments in government and semi-government institutions, government schools, etc. by tampering with PSC rank lists and employment exchanges, subverting reservations.
