'How did we lose?'; CPM's theoretical analysis from June 17th

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In the 2021 assembly elections, LDF stormed back to power after winning 99 assembly seats. But many eyebrows were raised when the same LDF, just three years later in 2024, came first in only 18 of those assembly constituencies in the Lok Sabha elections. The UDF which had just 41 seats during the 2021 elections, came first in 118 assembly seats in the 2024 LS elections.

The year 2024 was considered ideal for LDF to continue with their winning formula, unlike the 2019 LS polls, which were largely mired by the Sabarimala controversy. Despite having a conducive climate and state machinery for promotional works, LDF got battered hard in the election and was left with just one seat from the 20.

The CPM state secretariat will meet on the 17th of June and the state committee on the 18th, 19th and 20th of this month to conduct a ‘theoretical analysis’ of heavy beating.

From the LS poll of 2024, it was more or less certain that the party’s core voter base has splintered into various factions while the strongholds have shown signs of crumbling. LDF's vote share fell to 33.86 per cent.

There is also a huge criticism against the one-man-centric administration work happening within the party. Cadres who expected a course correction from state secretary M V Govindan were left disappointed.

Govindan revealed how Pinarayi Vijayan detested personality cult, but within a few minutes after this comment, Govindan continued his superfluous adulation of Pinarayi Vijayan. He likened Pinarayi Vijayan to a sun and said all his detractors would be charred to ashes if tried to reach the CM.
