Distorted Jesus Christ's image to scoff at Suresh Gopi's victory; Regi Lukose courts controversy

KOTTAYAM: Pro-Life Apostolate of Syro-Malabar Church has filed a complaint against left-wing political analyst Regi Lukose for a deplorable Facebook post where he disfigured the face of Jesus Christ with Suresh Gopi.

Regi’s scathing attack on social media was a response to the historic win BJP bagged from Thrissur. Regi morphed the picture of Jesus Christ with Suresh Gopi and took a jibe saying this to be the new poster now appearing on every Krisanghis' (a demeaning word used to address Christian people supporting Sangh Parivar) home. 'Suyesu is the Lord of this family', was the caption of the post.

Regi was quick to discern the growing admonishment to his Facebook post as he deleted it as the controversy brewed up. However, the Syro Malabar Church came forward with a complaint.

“The act of distorting the face of Jesus Christ is condemnable and has pained us all. The growing trend of attacking revered religious figures for political brownies should be dealt with strong legal actions” said the Syro Malabar Church.

Suresh Gopi won Thrissur with a majority of 74,686 votes beating CPM and Congress. The historic win saw BJP getting their first MP in Kerala since independence. Suresh Gopi will also be sworn in as a member of the third Narendra Modi cabinet tomorrow. It is reported that he will get cabinet rank or independent charge.
