Three-member family commit suicide in Neyyatinkara after suffering huge loss in real estate business

deaths

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The cause of death has been disclosed in the incident where three members of a family were found dead in a rented house at Koottappana in Neyyatinkara. Manilal (50) of Arappuravila House, his wife Manju (48) and son Abhilal (18) were found dead at around 11 pm last night. The family died after mixing cyanide in their food.

Unable to pay back the borrowed money pushed Manilal and his family to take the drastic step. A suicide note was found from the house. The note said that they were committing suicide due to financial difficulties. Manilal was running a real estate business in Tamil Nadu. However, he lost money in this business. He had borrowed around Rs 9 lakh from many people. Loans taken to pay interest could not be repaid and this led them to commit suicide. The Neyyatinkara police have registered a case in the incident. The bodies have been shifted to the mortuary of Neyyatinkara General Hospital.

Meantime, according to the national crime records bureau, Kollam is the city with the highest number of suicides in India. According to this figure, Tamil Nadu ranks first in the list of states where mass suicides occur, while Kerala ranks fourth. Figures indicate that there is a significant increase in the suicide rate in the state every year.

(Suicide is not the answer to anything. Try to survive. Seek help from mental health professionals.)
