KUNNAMKULAM: Kunnamkulam police have arrested three people for the gruesome murder of a youth in Cheruvathani. A police team led by Kunnamkulam station house officer U.K. Shahjahan arrested Shijith Kannan, Sreesanth and Chittanjur resident Vishnuraj for the murder of Vishnu (26).

The incident happened on Sunday at 9 pm. Vishnu used to frequent a field in Kavilakkad where the mahouts tied elephants. This visit invited the ire of his friends who banned him from visiting the place again. On Sunday, a small spat soon ended in a melee as three of them thrashed Vishnu mercilessly. When Vishnu lost consciousness, the same friends rushed him to a private hospital.

The friends deceived the doctor saying the injury was from a bike accident. However, after examination, the doctor felt suspicious and informed the police about the case. The police reached the spot took the accused into custody and interrogated them. The arrested accused will be produced in court after a medical examination. According to police, Vishnu didn’t suffer any serious injury but one injury on the neck vein led to the tragic death.

After completing the inquest at Kunnamkulam Daya Royal Hospital, the post-mortem was conducted at Thrissur Medical College Hospital. The final rites of Vishnu later took place on his house premises. The inquest proceedings were completed by a police team led by Kunnamkulam Station House Officer UK Shahjahan and Sub Inspector Sukumaran.
