Major fire breaks out in Bahrain; 25 shops gutted in fire, many injured

MANAMA: A major fire broke out in the old Manama market. More than twenty-five shops were gutted in fire and many suffered injuries. The fire broke out on Wednesday.

The media reported that the fire first broke out in a multi-storied residential building. No further information has been released.


Meantime, more information on Kuwait fire has emerged. The death toll is rising. Minister Veena George will go to Kuwait as a representative of the government. The minister will coordinate the rescue mission. Union Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh is already in Kuwait.


The state government has announced ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh to the families of the dead. Also, Rs 1 lakh has been announced as assistance to the injured. Businessman M A Yusuff Ali has announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the family of the dead, while businessman Ravi Pillai will provide Rs 2 lakh. The company is also likely to pay compensation.
