PALAKKAD: Two school students trapped in the Chittoor River, were heroically rescued by the fire force on Saturday. The locals informed the fire force and police after spotting the children in the middle of the river, struggling against the high current. Only three days passed since the fire force and police rescued four from a family after they got trapped in the same spot of the Chittoor River.

In Saturday’s incident, three students were trapped initially, but one managed to escape. According to locals, the children went fishing in the middle of the river but were surprised to witness the high current that came out of nowhere. The fire force carried out the rescue operation by placing a ladder in the river. The children were brought to safety with the help of a ladder. Locals also took part in the rescue operation.

According to the fire force:

“We initiated the work very fast because we knew it would be difficult for the children to hold on for long. Then it would have been drastic. In the high current, the ropes would go futile and only the ladder would have been proved effective.”

There had been a warning from the district administration to not enter the Chittoor River considering the heavy rainfall in the area. As it was a holiday, the children reached the riverside taking note of the clear sky and sunshine. Little did they know that the weather could change in the blink of an eye, and invite danger.
