NEW DELHI: The Congress has filed a police complaint against an X handle named 'Befitting Facts' for spreading fake news about AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal. In a complaint filed with the Hyderabad police, the Congress explained that the handle in question circulated a picture of Venugopal sitting in a restaurant with a glass of black tea and made a false claim that the Congress leader was consuming liquor in the restaurant. The complaint was lodged by Congress legislator Dr Venkat Narsing Rao Balmoor. He also shared a copy of the FIR through his X handle.
Congress alleged that the fake news was purposely circulated to malign Venugopal's image. In the complaint, Congress identified an individual named Shashank Singh behind the spread of the fake news.
