MP Radhakrishnan criticizes 'Bamboo Boys', asks if tribes in Kerala do such vulgar things

radhakrishnan

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former minister and MP K Radhakrishnan has said that not only the plight of tribals but also their achievements should be brought to the outside world. He said that news and movies are always turning their miseries into tools. Radhakrishnan also pointed out that the tribal community has been portrayed very badly in the film Bamboo Boys.

"The death of a child in Attapadi will be made into a big international news story. I am a person who wants no child to die, irrespective of caste. No child should die irrespective of being tribal or non-tribal. Only three children have died in the last three years. Still, it's portrayed as a big news. Many children have died in its immediate vicinity, but does it make to the news? If a tribal sister gives birth prematurely, it makes news. This is happening in many places. Even a doctor I know had this condition, but it was not news," said K Radhakrishnan.

"Tribal groups has been turned into a tool for making news. It is not right. This can be even seen in movies. You must have seen the movie "Bamboo Boys". What if the film was made about a different group of people? Are our tribes in Kerala do such vulgar things as shown in Bamboo Boys? Anything can be said about them. Not only their plight but also their rise should be shown to the outside world. By doing so, a big change will possible in this sector," K Radhakrishnan added.
