Heavy rains predicted in three districts; orange alert issued

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Rains are likely to intensify in the state. Orange alert has been issued in Malappuram, Kozhikode and Kannur. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has informed that there is a possibility of heavy rain at isolated places. Yellow alert has also been sounded in Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Wayanad and Kasaragod.

According to the weather department, there is a possibility of moderate rain at isolated places in Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod and light rain at isolated places in other districts.

The weather department has warned that heavy rain will continue in the coming days. Orange alert has been announced in Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod tomorrow. Yellow Alert has been issued in Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur and Palakkad.

Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod are on orange alert and Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki and Thrissur are on yellow alert on Sunday. An orange alert has been announced in Kannur and Kasaragod on Monday. Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad are on yellow alert.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Research Center has informed that there is a possibility of Kallakadal phenomenon and high waves on the Kerala coast till 11.30 pm tonight and on the Tamil Nadu coast till 7 pm tomorrow. Fishermen and coastal residents in these areas should be on alert.

Alert issued
1. As the rough seas are likely to intensify, stay away from the danger areas as per the instructions of the authorities.

2. Keep fishing vessels safely tied in the harbor. Keeping a safe distance between boats can avoid the possibility of collision. Safety of fishing equipment should be ensured.

3. Avoid trips to the beach and activities at sea completely.
