ST LUCIA: Rohit Sharma's blazing 92 followed by match winning spells by Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav along with a stunning catch by Axar Patel sealed a 24-run win for India in their Super 8 clash against Australia and set up a semi-final match versus England in the ongoing T20 World Cup on June 27.

In a thrilling run chase, India managed to check the run flow of the Aussies at the right time.

It was Travis Head who looked menacing once again just like he did seven months ago in the ODI World Cup final in Ahmedabad. But, Jasprit Bumrah was there to stop history from repeating itself at St Lucia.

After losing to India, Australia are on the verge of elimination as Afghanistan winning against Bangladesh in the final game of the Super 8 would end their T20 WC campaign.

Aussies had a mammoth 206 to chase, but Arshdeep Singh set the tone for India by removing David Warner on the final ball of the first over. After this wicket, the duo Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head steadied the ship for Australia.

India eventually got their breakthrough through spinner Kuldeep Yadav as Marsh's hit was stunningly caught by Axar Patel with one hand before it reached the boundary.

Maxwell looked like Head's perfect partner to finish the game but Kuldeep hit his stumps which marked the beginning of Australia's downfall.

Axar then removed Marcus Stoinis (2) and Bumrah took the wicket of the danger man Travis Head.

Arshdeep took two more wickets and India finally emerged victorious by 24 runs.

Earlier in the innings, after being put into bat, Rohit Sharma's stunning knock was backed by Suryakumar Yadav (31), Shivam Dube (28) and Hardik Pandya's performances.

For Australia, Josh Hazlewood kept things tight and took the key wicket of Virat Kohli. Despite going for runs, Mitchell Starc and Marcus Stoinis took 2 wickets each.

Brief score: India 205/5 (Rohit Sharma 92, Suryakumar Yadav 31; Mitchell Starc 2/45) vs Australia 181/7 (Travis Head 76; Arshdeep Singh 3-37, Kuldeep Yadav 2-24). (
