THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Pettah police registered a case against the scooterist involved in the strange accident at Venpalavattom flyover on Monday. The woman lost control of the scooter and fell off from the flyover to the 23-foot-deep service road, killing the pillion rider. Simi (34), a native of Nedumom in Kovalam is the victim.

Simi’s daughter Shivanya and sister Sini (32) suffered serious injuries in the crash. A case has been registered against Sini for reckless driving and overspeeding. The three were returning from attending the funeral of a close relative at Mayyanad in Kollam. The tragic incident took place yesterday at half past noon.

The scooter lost control and crashed into the concrete side of the flyover while the trio tumbled over and fell off the flyover, crashing into the service road from a considerable height. Simi crashed on the road hitting her head while the three-year-old toddler fell on the victim’s body. Sini meanwhile fell on the drain nearby. The autorickshaw workers nearby rushed the three to the hospital but Simi could not be saved.

Sini lives in Kovalam while sister Simi lives in Nalanchira at her husband's house. Sini planned to drop off Simi in Chackai and leave for Kovalam, but the tragedy struck midway.
