Microsoft users report 'blue screen of death'; banking, flight services disrupted

WASHINGTON DC: The outage in the cloud services of global software giant Microsoft has disrupted various services globally. The issue affected airlines and banks in several countries, including India. The outage also affected ATMs in India. The operations of various airlines were disrupted at Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru airports. Long queues are being formed in several airports.

Microsoft Windows users reported facing 'Blue Screen of Death' errors with many users taking to social media platform X to report about the issue.

Meanwhile, cybersecurity firm Crowdstrike told US outlet NBC that it suffered a major outage on Friday impacting businesses globally. The outage resulted from an issue with the latest update, the company said. CrowdStrike is now in the process of rolling back that update globally, it said.

The Microsoft outage disrupted the operations of various commercial establishments and services across the globe. The operations of various airline companies were disrupted in the US. Flight services have been suspended. The problem is even more severe in Australia. Domestic and international flight services were disrupted in Australia. The outage also affected the functioning of banks, supermarkets and telecommunication firms in the country. The situation is no different in New Zealand. The functioning of the New Zealand Parliament was also disrupted. It is reported that the problem has also affected the London Stock Exchange. British news channel Sky News was forced to go off air for nearly three hours following the Microsoft outage. Rail transport is also facing disruptions in Britain. In Europe, flight services were suspended at Berlin and Amsterdam airports.

In India, the Microsoft outage affected the operations of IndiGo, Akasa Air, SpiceJet and Air India Express. SpiceJet stated that it was experiencing technical challenges with its service provider, which affected online services like booking, check-in, and managing bookings.
