ALAPPUZHA: A 21-member special team has been formed to investigate the Mannar murder case. The investigating team was expanded under the leadership of Chengannur DySP. Crime branch officials of Mannar and Ambalapuzha police stations are in the investigation team. The police will be collecting more evidences in the case.

The three accused in custody will be questioned in detail today. Evidence will be collected after taking the accused to the house of Anil Kumar (Kala’s husband) where the body was dumped and then at the Valiya Perumbuzha Bridge where the murder was committed. The accused arrested will be in custody for six days. The police are aiming to collect maximum evidence during these days.

The police in their custody application have mentioned that whether there are more accused in the case should be investigated and need to find the vehicle carrying Kala to various places to commit the murder.

Kala was killed in 2009 at Perumpuzha Bridge. The police said that her husband Anil dumped the body in the septic tank with the help of his relatives and destroyed the evidence. The application stated that they suspect that she was killed with a weapon. Apart from murder, the accused have also been charged for tampering with evidence.
Anil's brother-in-law Somarajan, relatives Jinu Gopi, Pramod, Santhosh and Suresh Kumar are in custody in the case. It is concluded that Anil's suspicion led to the murder.
Kala, daughter of Chellappan and Chandrika, went missing 15 years ago from Mannar. The couple’s son was one-year-old then. Anil lodged a complaint soon after she went missing. He wandered in and around in the name of finding her. Meanwhile, Anil circulated that she eloped with someone after leaving him and their son. He later got married again. Kala's son is with them now.
