CHERTHALA: In a remarkable feat of endurance and courage, Anna Mary, an 8th-grade student from Cherthala, scaled 4800 meters in the Himalayas. The daughter of Shine Varghese and Preeti, Anna embarked on this adventurous mission on June 20, accompanied by her father.

Anna, a student of St Mary's Girls High School, joined a 13-member team from eight states, including Aradhya, another 8th grader from Haryana. The group met in the Solang Valley, where their journey began. Each night, they pitched tents, snacked on provisions and drank ice water to stay hydrated. Over six days, Anna and her team climbed to an altitude of 4800 meters.

The mission aimed to reach the summit of Friendship Peak but due to physical challenges, the team stopped 500 meters short of their goal. Shine Varghese, Anna's father and an employee of a private firm in Ernakulam, shared that their next target is to conquer Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa. He added that Anna will receive special training for this upcoming adventure.
