NEW DELHI: Union Home Ministry has initiated disciplinary proceedings against Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal and DCP Indira Mukherjee according to Governor C V Ananda Bose's report that the office of the Governor of West Bengal has been defamed.

The Raj Bhavan had allowed the victims of the post-election violence in Bengal to meet the Governor. However, the governor informed the central government that the police officials did not allow the visit. The governor also clarified the problems that arose due to this in his report.

The Governor pointed out that the IPS officers tried to tarnish the Governor's office by their actions and acted in a manner unbecoming of public servants. A copy of the letter sent to the Center was also sent to the state government. The Governor's report also mentions some other police officers assigned to the Raj Bhavan.

The report concluded that the police officials had encouraged sexual assault allegations levelled against the governor by a temporary employee and defamed the Raj Bhavan.
