vizhinjam

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The mothership of MSC, the world's largest shipping company, is also arriving at Vizhinjam port. This will be after the first arriving mothership San Fernando anchoring on the 10th. San Fernando is the ship of the world's second-largest shipping company Maersk. It is 300 meters long and 48 meters wide. MSC's ship arriving at the end of July is even bigger. It will be more than 400 meters long. The ship is arriving with more than 2,000 containers. More information will be available soon.

Two feeder ships are also arriving to take the cargo delivered by the ship San Fernando. Marin Azur and Seaspan Santos are said to be arriving. One of these will reach Vizhinjam on 13th. In the next two months, the ships of world-class companies will be visiting Vizhinjam.

Global transshipment hub

The world's largest motherships can be brought to Vizhinjam, the country's deepest transshipment hub. Cargo to other countries can also be unloaded at Vizhinjam. With that, Vizhinjam will grow as a global transshipment hub. Vizhinjam is 10 nautical miles away from international shipping lanes connecting Europe, Gulf, East Asian countries etc.

10 lakh containers in first phase

10 lakh containers will be brought to Vizhinjam in the first phase. 30 lakh containers when fully equipped. Ships will be controlled by a port navigation center running on software developed by IIT Madras. The automatic navigation center is modeled after air traffic control. Safe anchorage and port operations will be ensured.
