Northern districts of Kerala likely to receive heavy downpours

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Due to the strengthening of monsoon winds, rains will continue for five days in Kerala. Heavy rains are likely in central and northern districts. Isolated rains will occur in central districts and light rains in southern districts. Kottayam's Poonjar received very heavy rains on Friday. Orange alert has been sounded in Kannur, Kasaragod and Kozhikode. Yellow alert is in Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram and Wayanad.

'Kallakkadal' phenomenon is predicted in Kerala coast and Tamil Nadu coast today. The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services said there is a possibility of high waves and storm surges. Fishermen and coastal residents should exercise special caution.
