NEW DELHI: After a while, as the terrorist activity in Jammu and Kashmir becomes stronger, its form, tactics and base are changing. This is after Kashmir's special status was revoked in August 2019.

A new terrorist group called the Kashmir Tigers has emerged. The Kashmir Tigers have claimed responsibility for most of the terrorist attacks in the past three years. It is a shadow organization of Pakistan terrorist outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed.

The name Kashmir Tigers is to avoid names with Muslim connotations like Jaish-e-Mohammed, Allah Tigers, Hizbul Mujahideen. The aim is to hide the stigma of Islamic terrorism. It also has the political objective of securing local support and people's cooperation.

Although the name is Kashmir Tigers, the attacks are carried out in Jammu, mainly in Poonch, Rajouri, Katwa, Doda and Resai districts. Many attacks have taken place in these places during two months. More than ten jawans lost their lives.

Jammu's rugged terrain of mountains and thick jungles is a challenge for the army to hunt terrorists. Terrorists have many hideouts in Poonch and Rajouri. It is impossible to deploy troops here.

Guerrilla attack

These include grenade attacks, ambushes, attacking army convoys and attacks at unsecured checkpoints. Ambushes will be carried out by hiding in forest areas. Then they run away to the forest.

Aiming communal conflict

Muslims are the majority in Kashmir. Pak terrorists infiltrating into Kashmir are easy to identify due to their physical characteristics

There are various communities including Hindus in Jammu. They are not immediately recognizable. Racial conflict can be created through attacks

The aim is to polarize the community and create communal conflict. An example is the attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's swearing-in day

A bus of pilgrims was attacked in Reasi. During the firing, the bus went out of control and fell into a gorge, killing nine people

Clashes continue in Doda

There is an ongoing encounter between security forces and terrorists in Doda district Tal. In Malan village of Desa region, terrorists opened fire at security forces.

The encounter is going on for about four hours.
