KUWAIT CITY: In a frightening incident, four from a Malayali family died in a fire accident at Abbasiya, Kuwait on Saturday. Mathew Mulackal, a native of Tiruvalla Neerattupuram, his wife Lini Abraham and their children Isaac and Irene have died. The accident occurred in Al Jaleeb area of Abbasiya where the family’s apartment caught fire.

Mathew and his family, who just returned from Kerala, were sleeping in the room unaware of the fire accident. It is doubted that the four might have breathed the smoke which seeped the room through the AC vent, leading to asphyxiation.

A short circuit is suspected to be the cause of the accident. The Kuwaiti Fire Rescue Force has not released any further information regarding the incident. The family had returned to Kuwait only on Friday after spending a vacation in Kerala. Mathew is working with Reuters while Lini is a nurse at Adan Hospital.
