It seems like actor Dulquer Salmaan is slowly shifting his base to the Telugu film industry, further straying away from Mollywood. As per reports, Dulquer has signed a contract for three more Telugu movies including projects with Vyjayanthi Movies and SLV cinemas.
Mollywood stars trying their luck in other industries is not new but Dulquer Salman is an anomaly. It is unprecedented for a mollywood star to start away from his 'home industry' and commit only to movies in other regional languages. Back in the time, Mani Ratnam picked Mollywood legend Mohanlal in the former's magnum Opus ‘Iruvar’ released in Tamil. Mammooty too amassed fans in Tamil but the two actors made it a point to not leave Mollywood for other greener pastures.
Dulquer Salmaan, one of the most influential young stars with a massive fan base in Malayalam, is showing signs of shifting base to other industries in the south. The actor had expressed his dismay over the constant cyber-attacks he faces from Malayalam audiences. Dulquer in an interview with a prominent online channel said he was least burdened while working away from the Malayalam industry, where he is not judged based on his father's (Mammootty) acting prowess.
Many opined that the stereotypical roles in Malayalam that revolve around uneducated youths and wayward youngsters to be a tough fit for Dulquer Salmaan's refined youngster persona. This 'refined' trait in the actor was highly palpable in the movie “ABCD’.
Though Prithviraj and Fahad commit to several moves from the south industry like in Telugu, they make sure to please their fans in Mollywood with at least one movie a year. However, Dulquer is taking up a road, unknown to Malayalam superstars.
Dulquer’s last movie in Malayalam was King of Kotha (2023), which ended up being a box-office disaster.
