THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Extremely heavy rain is predicted at isolated places in the state today. Red alert has been declared in Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod. Heavy rainfall means rainfall of more than 204.4 mm in 24 hours by the Meteorological Department.
There will be heavy rain in less time. It may cause flash floods and landslides. Waterlogging is also possible in urban areas and low-lying areas in general. Continued rainfall may trigger landslides and mudslides. Public and government systems should be extremely cautious.
Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam and Ernakulam are on orange alert. A chance of very heavy rain at isolated places has been predicted. Heavy rainfall means 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm of rain in 24 hours. Yellow alert has also been declared in Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam.
The weather department has warned that rain will continue in the coming days. Orange alert has been sounded in Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod tomorrow and yellow alert in Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Palakkad tomorrow.
Orange alert has been sounded in in Kannur and Kasaragod day after tomorrow. Yellow alert has also been announced in Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad. Yellow alert is on in Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod on Friday.
Fishing banned
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has banned fishing in Kerala, Karnataka and Lakshadweep coasts. Strong winds with gusts of 35 to 45 kmph and occasional gusts of up to 55 kmph are possible today and tomorrow.
The National Center for Oceanographic Studies (INCOIS) has informed that a high wave of 2.1 to 2.8 meters is likely to occur along the Kerala coast till 11.30 pm tomorrow.
Holiday for educational institutions
The district collector has declared a holiday for all educational institutions including professional colleges and tuition centers in Pathanamthitta tomorrow.
