THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Six people, including a patient, got stuck for an hour and a half when a lift at the Medical College Hospital malfunctioned again. The lift could not be opened even after the fire brigade arrived. It was the lift's company technicians who brought out the trapped people.

The incident took place in the main block at around 2 pm yesterday. The lift operator and the patient were trapped inside. According to the company, the fault was caused by the patient's stretcher hitting the lift door.

The lift leading from the main block to the burn ICU side malfunctioned. The lift operator was present and he made a phone call and raised the alarm to alert the people outside. When the hospital staff tried and failed to open the door, the fire force was called from Chacka but to no avail. The company technicians was brought to the spot immediately. All lifts were checked and confirmed to be efficient recently.

On the 13th of this month, CPI Thirumala former local committee secretary Ravindran Nair was trapped in the lift of OP Block for more than 48 hours. After the controversial incident, the health department had instructed the hospital authorities to make sure that such incidents do not repeat.
