MEPPADI: Central forces rescued 19 tourists trapped in Mundakkai Tree Valley Resort on Wednesday. These people had come to Wayanad just two days before after hearing about the drizzling monsoon. The route to the resort is through the Chooralmala Bridge from Meppadi.

After the rain worsened, the tourists planned to move to a safer abode but news reached them about the bridge collapsing in the landslides. For two days, the 19 tourists were stranded in the resort and it took the central forces to help them reach Chooralmala Angadi safely today. Many heaved a sigh of relief and had tears welled up as they thanked the efforts of the army officials. However, the tourists will have to wait for some days as the road towards Kozhikode is not serviceable while the route connecting Bengaluru is secluded and is not yet free from the scare of floods.

Harrisons Malayalam Plantation Manager Ajesh Vishwanath, Assistant Manager Sajith and their family, and another Assistant Manager Alan Inesh Mani, a native of UP, were trapped in Attamala but were brought to a safer place by the army and other volunteers. On Wednesday evening, many tourists had the worst premonition after news reached about the bridge collapsing. Despite the odds, the army and volunteers made the yeoman work much to the gratitude of the stranded tourists.
