Heavy rains to continue in state, yellow alert in various districts, Kallakadal Phenomenon likely

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rains will continue in the state. Yellow alert has been sounded in Kottayam, Idukki, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasargod districts. Isolated heavy rains have been predicted. Heavy rain refers to rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has informed that in the next three hours there is a possibility of moderate rain at isolated places in Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram and Kozhikode with strong winds of up to 40 kmph.

Yellow alert has been issued in Kottayam, Idukki, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod tomorrow and Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod are on yellow alert day after tomorrow. Meantime, the extreme low pressure over northwest Jharkhand intensified into a very intense depression over south Bihar and northwest Jharkhand. It is likely to move over Southwest Bihar, Southeast Uttar Pradesh and East Madhya Pradesh during the next 48 hours. Another low pressure has formed over southwest Rajasthan.


The National Center for Oceanographic Studies (INCOIS) has informed that there is a possibility of high waves of 2.0 to 2.5 meters along Kerala coast till 11.30 pm tomorrow. The IMD has informed that there is no disruption to fishing in Kerala-Lakshadweep coasts.
