MEPPADI: The bodies of four people who were missing in the Wayanad landslide have been found Soochipara - Kanthanpara area during the search conducted by the rescue team and volunteers. The bodies will be airlifted.
The dead bodies were found on the 11th day after the disaster. With this, the total death toll hit 408. There are over 100 more to be found. Inspection is being done today divided into six zones. Soochipara - Kanthanpara is the most difficult area.
'Three bodies and a severed leg were found. Whether the rest of the body is nearby can only be determined after further searching. It seems this area hasn't been searched before, as the bodies were lying in plain sight, untouched. The site appears to have been undisturbed until now. We haven't found anything else yet. The smell is overwhelming, suggesting there may be more bodies hidden nearby. There are eight of us on the search team but so far, nothing further has been found. A thorough search is urgently needed, as all the bodies are in an advanced state of decomposition,' said Naufal, a rescue worker, speaking to the media.
