Police term death of college teacher found with stomach slit as suicide; Investigation underway

KOLANCHERY: The police have classified the death of Venniyeth V S Chandralal, a 41-year-old college teacher found with his abdomen slit open and internal organs exposed, as a suicide. Chandralal, a resident of Mazhuvannur, was discovered dead on a plot of land near his home around 5:30 pm on Thursday.

Neighbors reported seeing Chandralal heading towards the land earlier in the afternoon and it was a neighbor who found his body in the evening. According to the police, Chandralal had a history of mental health issues and self-harm. He was reportedly undergoing treatment for these conditions.

Chandralal was an assistant professor in the Hindi department at Rajagiri College of Management Studies in Kakkanad but had not been to the college for the past three months. His relatives mentioned that he had been seeking treatment for depression following his father's death three months ago.

The body was discovered after relatives raised an alarm when he failed to return for a scheduled hospital visit. The inquest was conducted by a police team led by Perumbavoor ASP Mohit Rawat, with forensic and fingerprint experts also on the scene to collect evidence.

Chandralal is survived by his wife, Vinaya, a guest teacher at Government Higher Secondary School, Koothattukulam and their two children, Miraja, a 7th standard student and Meerav, a 2nd standard student.
