KOLKATA: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has reacted strongly to the tragic murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor at R G Kar Medical College. She has called for expedited legal proceedings and emphasized that, if necessary, the accused should face the death penalty. The young doctor was found dead in the seminar hall of the government hospital in what has been described as a horrific incident.

Junior doctors at the hospital have staged protests, demanding justice for their colleague. In response, Mamata Banerjee labeled the incident as "unfortunate" and confirmed that the accused, who has been arrested, was employed at the hospital. She added that she had personally spoken with the victim's family and assured them that strict action would be taken.

According to the post-mortem report, the victim had been sexually assaulted and sustained multiple injuries, including a fractured neck and bleeding from the mouth and eyes. The report further states that the assault and murder occurred between 3 am and 6 am.

The Kolkata Police have formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT), including members of the Homicide Department, to investigate the crime. Police officials revealed that the arrested suspect had unrestricted access to various areas of the hospital and was apprehended after a thorough review of CCTV footage.

Reports indicate that the doctor had gone to rest at around 2 am after dining with her junior colleagues. As there was no designated room for her to rest, she went to the seminar hall. Her body was discovered in a semi-naked state at 6 am. The post-mortem report confirms that she was brutally assaulted before being killed.

Mamata Banerjee has assured the victim's parents that the accused will not be released under any circumstances and that justice will be served swiftly.
