NEW DELHI: Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina dropped silence and blamed the US for being the mastermind in toppling her government in Bangladesh. Hasina reasoned her resignation as a means to not witness the bloodbath in her country. This was excerpts from the audio speech prepared by Hasina just before her exile.
Hasina was not allowed to give her farewell speech as the army feared the protesters entering her official residence any time. In the speech, Hasina alleged that she would have been able to stay in power if she had allowed the United States to take sovereignty of St. Martin's Island and continue their inviolability in the Bay of Bengal.
“America is responsible for creating a civil war-like situation in my country. I had no wish to see the corpses getting piled up in the streets of Dhaka and so I resigned. The Western forces are placing the young students as a shield to win power over the country. Don’t fall for the doctrines of fundamentalist and keep hope of better days. I will return soon to my beloved nation.”
Meanwhile, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs offered no response about the extended stay of exiled Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina in the country.
