KOLKATA: Nationwide protests are intensifying over the rape and murder of the PG doctor in Bengal. Doctors' associations will meet Union Health Minister JP Nadda, demanding that the probe be left to central agencies. The Federation of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA) has announced that it will go on a nationwide strike today.
Meanwhile, accused Sanjay Roy was remanded in police custody till the 23rd. The police informed that they are investigating whether there are more suspects. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had responded that the accused would be given the death penalty. The BJP said that the government is trying to cover up the case and demanded to hand over the case to the CBI. Mamata responded that they can approach any investigating agency if they have no faith in the government and the government will not oppose it.
The body was found half-naked inside the seminar hall of the college on Friday morning. There was a huge protest after the post-mortem report revealed that the doctor was brutally raped. After this, the accused, who is a civic volunteer of the police, was arrested.
Bluetooth headset
The discovery of the Bluetooth headset from the seminar hall and the CCTV footage were crucial in arresting the accused. The incident took place between four and six in the morning. In the CCTV footage, the accused can be seen coming to the crime scene. It became clear from the footage that Sanjay Roy, who came to the hospital with a Bluetooth headset attached to his ears, did not have the headset when he returned.
Following this, the police called Sanjay along with the doctors and nurses for questioning. Sanjay gave conflicting statements. The Bluetooth headset found at the scene connected to the suspect's phone as well. With this, he confessed to the crime.
Sanjay Roy has misbehaved with women before. He was excessively drunk on the day of the incident. It is reported that obscene videos were found when his phone was checked. Neighbours informed that he has married four times and left three of them. It is said that he is a drug addict.
Patient threat
Meanwhile, in Bengal, there was a complaint that a patient threatened a lady doctor due to the delay in the treatment. The woman doctor was threatened that she will have the same treatment as the woman doctor of RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata. A case was registered in the incident.
