Heavy rains in landslide-ravaged Vilangad, many families relocated

KOZHIKODE: Heavy rains are lashing Vilangad, a hilly area of Kozhikode. Many families have been relocated. A major landslide struck Vilangad on July 30. 18 families lost their houses completely and around 80 houses were partially damaged in the tragedy.

Kulathinkal Mathew, a native of Manjacheeeli and a former teacher, had died in the tragedy. His body was found after a search of two days.


The families have been relocated to the Parish Hall and Vilangad St George School in the wake of heavy rains. The rains started in Vilangad this morning. Vilangad town bridge has been submerged in the rain. Transportation has been disrupted. There are heavy rains in the forest also.
