Kerala braces for heavy rains; strict warning in three districts

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian meteorological department has predicted heavy rainfall in the state for the next three hours. There is a possibility of moderate rain with thundershowers at isolated places over Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts with gusty winds of less than 40 kmph. According to IMD, light rain is also possible at isolated places in Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad and Malappuram districts.

A very intense depression is located over the Saurashtra Kutch region. It is likely to reach the Northeast Arabian Sea near Saurashtra Kutch coast by Thursday morning. A low-pressure trough is located from central Kerala coast to south Gujarat coast.

Kerala is likely to receive widespread moderate/moderate rains for the next five days. IMD has predicted heavy rains at isolated places on August 30 and heavy rains from today to the first of next month.

Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod districts are on yellow alert today. An orange alert has been announced in Kozhikode and Kannur districts and a yellow alert in Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Wayanad and Kasaragod districts on Thursday.
