KOLKATA: It is alleged that the police tried to pay money to the parents of the doctor who was killed as a victim of brutal torture in Kolkata to withdraw from the case. The incident took place during protests after the discovery of the young doctor's body. The parents also alleged that the police tried to close the case quickly without conducting a thorough investigation.
'In the beginning, the police tried to wrap up the case. We were not allowed to see the body. We waited at the police station when the body was taken for post-mortem. A senior police officer offered money while the body was being cremated. We rejected it. I will fight till my child gets justice,’ said the doctor’s father.
It is alleged that accused Sanjay was close to some top officials of Kolkata Police. The CBI had earlier informed the Supreme Court that there was an attempt by the local police to hide the rape and murder of the doctor. On August 13, the Kolkata High Court ordered the transfer of the investigation from the Kolkata Police to the CBI. The protestors say that elites are behind the incident. Earlier, the Supreme Court had said that the police and the government had failed in the case.
