HC forms special bench consisting of woman judge to consider pleas related to Hema Committee Report

KOCHI: The Kerala High Court constituted a special bench to consider the pleas related to the Hema Committee Report. These cases will be considered by a larger bench comprising of a woman judge.


The court informed of forming a special bench while considering the plea of producer Sajimon Parayil regarding the release of the Hema Committee report. There are many pleas related to the Hema Committee report before the consideration of the high court. Among them is a plea demanding the release of the full report and a proper investigation. Acting Chief Justice A Muhammad Mushtaq and Justice S Manu clarified the matter of forming a special bench.


After the release of the committee report, sexual allegations were raised against many including prominent actors. Many of the accused have approached the court seeking anticipatory bail. The decision to form a new bench is taken into account in this situation. The acting chief justice will decide which judges should be there in the bench.


The high court had asked the government to submit the full version of the Hema Committee report. It will be submitted in a sealed envelope. The high court will consider the public interest litigation on the report on September 10. The committee report will be subjected to detailed scrutiny by the court. Further action will be decided by the special bench.
